Fractionated CO2 + Erbium Laser Skin Resurfacing
Dr. Jessica Kulak, an aging face specialist and a highly trained Facial Plastic Surgeon at The Naderi Center discusses the Cortex Laser by Sand Stone / Ellman technology. The Cortex laser is a state ...
Fractional laser resurfacing is a treatment done in your clinician’s office to address sun-damaged skin, moderate to deep wrinkles and other skin irregularities. The Cortex CO2 and Erbium Laser System is the ultimate skin resurfacing laser for wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, sun-damaged skin or skin texture irregularities.

Instead of affecting the entire surface of the skin, a fractional pattern of micro laser spots is applied, enabling a unique wound healing process. Each laser spot is surrounded by untreated tissue that provides for faster healing. Fractional wound healing results in rapid replacement of the surface of the skin for textural improvements as well as collagen remodeling in the deeper dermis for wrinkle reduction.

How does the Cortex work?

Your skin has two layers. The outer visible layer of skin, called the epidermis, acts as a protective barrier. The inner layer, called the dermis, provides structural support to the outer layer, keeping skin tight and firm. The Cortex CO2 and Erbium Laser System delivers different levels of energy to both the outer and inner layers of the skin, stimulating the production of collagen and triggering skin cell turnover. The CO2 laser energy is used for deeper wrinkles and areas that may need a stronger treatment while the Erbium laser energy is lighter and can be used to treat more superficial issues such as fine lines and sun-damage. After treatment, the epidermis peels away as it heals and reveals new, healthy firm skin with less sun damage and wrinkles.

What should I expect?

You should expect the emergence of younger, healthier and radiant skin within a week or so after your treatment. You may also experience a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles and other skin texture irregularities.* Treatments usually take less than 30 minutes.

Many patients describe the treatment as warm or sharp energy pulses that result in an immediate tightening of the skin. After treatment, most patients look and feel like they may have a sunburn. Typical post-procedure downtime could last several days to a week, depending on the depth of the treatment. Topical anesthetics and cooling devices as advised by your clinician may be applied to reduce any discomfort during and after the treatment.*results may vary

How is fractional laser resurfacing with the Cortex system different from other devices and treatments?

The Cortex CO2 and Erbium Laser System is designed to allow for greater treatment flexibility based on patient needs, allowing your provider or clinician to precisely tailor your treatment. The ability to make fine adjustments or switch treatment modes allows for a quicker, more customized treatment.
